Ok, you have chosen the floor of your dreams and have spent months looking and deciding on exactly what you want. The next question is who is going to fit it?
Now, if you are a keen DIYer then maybe you could give it a go. If you’re not confident and are having something like a solid wood floor then it will be unlikely that you could fit it yourself due to the weight of the board. That’s perhaps when you would want a wood floor fitting service as well as supply. There is so much information available at our fingertips, that really we can find out about just about anything. If you want to install a solid wood floor, then this can be a time-consuming and detailed job. A general rule for a solid wood floor fitting is that it is secretly nailed to an existing T and G floor or plywood. Another general rule of thumb, is that the boards would cross the other way from the original boards giving much more stability. There should always be an expansion gap left around the floor as a solid wood product will expand and contract. A solid wood floor should be left for at least 78 hours in the environment that it will be installed. This will acclimatise the product. There really is nothing like a real wood floor and if you do your homework and are pretty shifty and good with your hands then you could maybe give it a go. Here at First Floors we have a great team of fitters who have been installing floors for our customers for many years. A solid wood floor will be £17.00 per square metre to fit. An engineered board will come in at £15.00 per square metre and a laminate will be £9.00 per square metre. (Please note these prices are correct at the time of writing and may go up) The beauty of a laminate floor is that with the great click systems on the market today, they are getting easier and easier to install. There are loads of self help videos available to choose from. Ideally having a trained and professional fitter to do the job is probably the best option and will save your knees and a lot of hassle! We would definitely recommend knee pads for any flooring jobs as it can be pretty tough on them. At First Floor we will help guide you to choose the perfect floor for your home. Doing it yourself is a good thing, but if like most of our customers you want a professional and trustworthy service, then one of our great fitters will be more than happy to help you.
