Light or dark wood flooring
Prefinished white oak hardwood flooring
Light and dark wood flooring will give your home two vastly different looks and people coming to our showroom tend to have a preference for one over the other. What some people don’t seem to realise is that a very dark wood floor shows up every speck of dirt and grit. You would think it would hide it but it’s quite the opposite.
Light flooring tends to be a lot more practical if you have children or pets who bring dirt into the house! Dark floors look great with white or pale walls as it offers a great, clean contrast. It also shows up furniture especially if they are brightly coloured or statement pieces. If you are into the shabby chic look, you might want to go for a light floor – especially as we have some fantastic driftwood effect luxury vinyl, as well as a beautiful white wash oak by Quickstep. Many people like the combination of white furniture, white walls and a whitewash floor with a few colourful soft furnishing.
Dark floors can work very well to create a rustic feel where the grain of the floor can be replicated by using textured décor accessories such as bulky furniture and chunky woven rugs. Remember, you don’t have to go for a real wood floor to create the dark wood effect. Amtico, Karndean and Moduleo have some beautiful wood effect luxury vinyl options and they perfectly emulate the grooves and knots of real wood floors and it can often be difficult to see that it’s not real wood and it has the added benefit of being scratch proof, water proof and easy to clean. However, dark rooms can make a room seem much darker especially if there isn’t much light in the room in the first place.
Therefore we tend to recommend that the smaller the area, the lighter the floor should be. In addition to the choice of light and dark, you can also choose a wide or narrow plank, and a short and long length. The choices really are endless! For those who love a home that appears immaculate, we would recommend a lighter floor as it will not only open up the room, but looks clean and bright even when it hasn’t been cleaned! The only solution is to come into the showroom, check out the options and ask us to bring samples to your home so you can get a feel for whether light or dark flooring would be best for you. We can talk you through the benefits of real wood, laminate, luxury vinyl and the best options in terms of your budget and decor.
