Jacaranda carpet is one of our favourites here at First Floors. This brand produces an incredible range of carpets and hand knotted rugs in bright or natural colours and handmade textures and materials. The buyers at Jacaranda buy what they love, and take pride in being innovative and different. Jacaranda uses sound production practices without compromising on style, quality or design.
One of our repeat customers in Giffnock, who we have provided carpets and hard flooring for in both of their homes over the last 15 years, are renovating a stunning period property in Giffnock. In fact, this is the fifth carpet installation we have completed for them! Our customer wanted a plush, luxurious carpet to complement their new interiors for their sitting and piano room. As soon as they saw this range from Jacaranda they knew that’s what they wanted to have fitted. They opted for the Willingdon range in ‘Cloudy Grey’ to complement the colour scheme in their room.
Willingdon is a hand woven carpet with real character, and woven by traditional methods on a traditional wooden loom. The creation of these carpets involves large numbers of highly skilled artisans and rigorous quality control.
They are made from natural fibres as this brand believes that pure wool still makes the best carpets. The elasticity of good quality wool gives excellent resilience and wear properties, and the fibres are covered in a thin membrane which inhibits water penetration, so providing natural stain resistance. Wool is naturally flame retardant and holds less ‘static’ than most synthetic yarns so does not attract dust, or promote the growth of dust mites or bacteria. This was especially important for our customer as they have a child with allergies and only use natural products in their home.
It’s worth noting that hand-weaving and hand-knotting cannot and do not try to mimic the uniformity of ‘machine made’ carpet. Those wanting a perfectly uniform finish should consider something machine woven from Jacaranda’s machine made collection.
As the carpets are a natural product, you will see some slight variations in colour, weave and pile weight which is inevitable and part of their ‘handmade’ character rather than faults. Natural fibres may fade over time, especially if exposed to strong light.
