Floor fitting by First Floors
Here at First Floors, our service doesn’t end once we have delivered your flooring.
We also offer a floor fitting service, which you’re under no obligation to use when ordering flooring through us. We use four highly skilled professional fitters who we have worked with for several years – so we know that we can trust them to go into our customers homes, be respectful and offer a first class fitting service. Each of them has their own skill set and we will match your job with the best fitter. And because we have four fitters, we can often get your floor fitting booked in within a few days of delivery. Just remember, with solid wood flooring we advise that the flooring sits in your home to acclimatise – we recommend leaving your floor for at least 3 days up to a week prior to laying it to avoid any expansion issues in the future. Our floor fitting service is rated five stars by our customers.
Choosing your new floor
When choosing the perfect floor for your home there are many factors to take into consideration.
Firstly, we have to choose what kind of flooring we would like. Many customers today are opting for either a solid wood floor, or an engineered floor. Really, you cannot tell the difference between and engineered and a solid wood board. A solid wood board is exactly what it says, a piece of solid wood. An engineered board is made up of three layers of plywood with a veneer of wood on the top. An engineered board tends to be more solid due to the construction of it. There will be less movement compared with a solid piece and it is ideal for basements and conservatories where humidity may be an issue. Ok, we have now chosen what kind of floor we would like. Here comes the sometimes tricky part. What finish and colour would we like. This is a big decision because once the floor is in place, you have to live with it. At First Floors on Fenwick Road in Giffnock, we will guide you through all the processes and ultimately you will leave with the ideal product for your home. No floor fitting or supply job is too big or too small and we value all our customers. Now we are going to talk about the various finishes of your floor. A UV oiled penetrates the wood and will bring out the grain and its beauty. On average each board is given 5 – 7 coatings. With a finish like this, small scratches etc can be simply touched up without major upheaval. Now if this is not to your taste then a UV lacquered board could be the one for you. This type of board is given the same layering process of an oiled board, but will have a very smooth surface. It really depends on your taste. It is an easily maintained board and hardwearing. This board, which comes in both engineered and solid, will have a glossier finish which to some customers is exactly what they want. A matt lacquered finish will give the look of an oiled board without the sheen. A brushed finish means that the surface has been given a light brushing thus bringing out the natural grain. If you are looking for that more rustic look, then a sawn board could be the perfect floor for you. Basically the saw marks are left on the surface giving it an extremely natural look.
