Beech wood flooring is a popular alternative to oak
Beech wood flooring is native to Britain, and the bark of the tree is smooth and a very distinctive light grey in colour. In beech woods there is often very little else growing because the leaves prevent sunlight from reaching it.
The leaves that fall from the beech take a very long time to disintegrate so they form a blanket on the floor, again preventing anything on the ground from growing. The tree is often referred to as the lady of the woods and it is considered to be a symbol of posterity. Folklore states that if someone carves their dearest wish in to the stick from a beech tree then it would come true. It was commonly known as the ‘tree of wishes’. The wood of the beech tree is very strong and durable and has a lovely even texture. Beech is a pale and attractive hardwood with a lightly marked surface which give a floor character without being dark enough to detract from the design of the rest of the room. This type of flooring is ideal for smaller rooms giving the illusion of space, and works very well in rooms with a pale and minimalist décor. Beech wood flooring – solid hardwood Beech is a very attractive hardwood flooring option, it’s pale but available in many shades, tone and styles. You can choose flooring with either few markings or more markings to make it look more distinctive. Beech wood flooring – engineered wood Beech engineered flooring is constructed by three or four layers of wood being fused together, with the beech hardwood layer on top to give the finished product the same appearance as solid beech flooring. Engineered flooring is layered so it means that it’s very strong and doesn’t expand and contract which can happen with hardwood floors. Because of the way that this product is structured it can be installed as a floating floor on top of any kind of subfloor. Beech wood flooring – laminate flooring Beech laminate flooring is very popular because there is such a large range to choose from. It’s durable, easy to maintain and very affordable. It’s ideal for areas of heavy use and is quick and easy to install. You can choose from many shades and effects from many different brands.
