The National Wood Flooring Association recently surveyed estate agents to find out more about the impact of a real wood floor on those looking to buy a home. Out of the estate agents surveyed, 82% said that homes with solid and engineered wood flooring sold faster and at a higher price.
Wood flooring will last for generations if looked after properly, and it is one of those rare household purchases that will look better, not worse, over time if maintained correctly.
Add value to your home
So can a real wood floor really add value to your home? Well if you want to know how much a home is worth, you can easily get an estimate from Zoopla. It looks at what the house last sold for, the average house price in the area, the number of bedrooms, style of home, postcode etc. It also surveys other details that can add value and one the few interiors questions asked in order to determine the value is whether it has a hardwood floor. If the answer is yes, your home is worth more than if you don’t have a real wood floor. In addition, it’s a feature that appeals to just about everyone when it comes to selling your home. It’s beautiful, authentic, long-lasting and natural.
Refinish and re-stain when required
In addition, a real wood floor can be refinished and restored if it ever needs it in the future. This includes engineered wood, which is a real wood veneer rather than a solid plank of wood. An engineered board can be sanded around 2-4 times in its lifetime.
How to choose the right floor for you
Many people who come into our showroom don’t know where to start when it comes to finding a new floor. It’s true that there are more options than ever, especially as there are now even more species of wood to choose from. The most popular wood is still Oak, but we have also seen a rise in popularity of the more exotic woods such as American Walnut and Blacknut. Even when you do decide what wood to go for, there are various finishes, plank length and widths to choose from, and you can even opt for a design such as herringbone or crosshatch in addition to the standard board.
You will also need to think about the location of your real wood floor, the humidity or temperature changes in the room and consider what shape your subfloor is in. If you have a concrete subfloor in say a basement, then engineered wood will be the better option, similarly if you would like underfloor heating installed you will need an engineered board. If you are looking for a wood floor in the main rooms or bedrooms, you might prefer a solid wood option.
One thing that you can be sure of is that we only use wood flooring suppliers that responsibly source their wood and are FSC certified.
Perfect for family life
Real wood flooring not only looks stunning, it’s also allergen-free, easy to install and easy to keep clean. It works particularly well for families because it saves time worrying about stains and muddy footprints. If your children suffer from allergies, wood flooring is a great option as it not only has natural anti-bacterial properties, it is easy to keep clean and is allergen free.
Why not just sand the original floorboards?
A good quality board will add more value to your home than refinishing existing floor boards, especially in Victorian homes. These boards were never meant to be the primary floor covering and as such provide no insulation against the cold and dust, and can look shoddy as a pine floor is much more easily marked than a good quality hardwood with a lacquer or oil finish.
If you are considering a real wood floor we have a range of beautiful, high-quality brands including Quick Step, Woodpecker, Boen and more. In addition, we are a Quick Step Platinum Partner. Each of our brands are hand picked for quality and the exceptional ranges offered.
