Tips for taking care of your Amtico Flooring
Amtico flooring is a fabulous option for your home. It’s long lasting, durable and easy to clean, and will stay looking great for many years to come.
The Amtico Form, Signature and Spacia ranges of luxury vinyl flooring is both hardwearing and durable and is available in many designs and finishes. You can even have a bespoke design created by one of our certified fitters.
We recently had a customer in the showroom who wanted to change their existing Amtico flooring. You may wonder why she was replacing like for like, but it had been fitted over 40 years ago! Not only was it 40 years old, but it was in immaculate condition but she simply wanted a different design. That’s testament to the high quality and longevity of this fabulous flooring and of course in the last 40 years the technology has advanced greatly.
Even thought it’s a very hardwearing flooring choice, it’s important to take care of it properly. We are often asked if there is anything that should be done regularly to ensure that the floor stays looking great and lasts a lifetime and what should be done in terms of taking care of Amtico.
Regular maintenance is recommended as this can help to preserve the appearance of your floor, although this will depend on how much footfall your floor has to endure and the colour and type of Amtico flooring you have had installed.
One of the things you can do is purchase Amtico matting to prevent dirt and grit being walked through the home.
We recommend that you sweep the floor with a soft brush or non-treated dust mop. Regularly clean the entrance matt to avoid anything being walked through onto the floor, and use Amtico International floorcare maintainer, diluted as per the instructions. Alternatively use a gentle, non-abrasive floor cleaner diluted in water and use a soft mop. Don’t leave lots of water on the surface of the floor; even though it is very water resistant, we don’t recommend letting the floor become wet for long periods of time.
If you notice that there are any scuff marks, gently rub the area with a non-abrasive nylon pad suitable for non-stick cookware.
Once a year, you could strip the floor completely using Amtico International Floorcare Stripper to remove any ingrained dirt. You will find the instructions on the solution, but it’s worth noting that the floor can become slippery during the stripping process. Following this the floor will need to be ‘dressed’ using the appropriate dressing. This is easy to do with a clean mop, and requires 30 minutes of drying, with a second coat if required.
Here are some tips to ensure your floor stays looking great for many years:
Do not:
- Use aerosol sprays or silicone based products, as they can make the floor slippery – Use matting at the internal entrance to reduce water being walked through, grit dirt, stones or debris being walked in.
- Leave spillages on the floor for any length of time.
- Get any paint, shoe polish or rubber on the floor as this could stain.
- Allow heat to touch the floor including cigarettes, straighteners and even steam mops as these may cause damage to the tile or cause adhesives to fail.Use furniture pads to avoid scratches and avoid dragging furniture across the floor.
If you follow these steps your floor should last a very long time, and if you do get any problems contact us for some advice.
