First Floors is an independent, family-run award-winning flooring showroom based in the heart of Glasgow’s southside.
At First Floors, our aim is to ensure that people see flooring as something that should be celebrated and given the same status as their walls and furnishings. We are passionate about flooring and have one of the most comprehensive ranges of carpet, laminate, luxury vinyl and wood flooring in Scotland, along with a bespoke rug service. We pride ourselves on keeping abreast of trends and ensuring that we have some the most innovative products on the market, and our great relationship with reps means that we are often the first to market these.
Last year we won Scotland’s Best Flooring Company at the The Scottish Home Improvement Awards, and are finalists in this year’s upcoming awards. We also won East Renfrewshire’s Best Small Business and this year we are up for the same award, along with Best Family Run Company and Best Independent Retailer. We also won Scotland’s Best Independent Flooring Company at the Independent Retail Awards so we are going from strength to strength!
First Floors was has been supplying and fitting flooring in Scotland for over 24 years, but our beginnings were very different to the flooring company that exists today. What began as David advertising in the press and visiting people’s homes with suitcases full of samples and working with just one fitter, has evolved into First Floors becoming one of the Southside’s largest independent retailers. It wasn’t always plain sailing to get to this point. Before we opened our premises in Giffnock (where David grew up) when the recession hit, newly married and with a growing family, David was not only selling floors in the evening but was going out and fitting them himself during the day in order to get First Floors through what proved to be a difficult time for many small, independent retailers.
It’s a far cry from First Floors today. We went from a one-man company to opening a small flooring showroom seven years ago, to then extending into 3,500 of retail space and finally expanding further to provide a 4,500 square foot showroom to customers in Glasgow and beyond. One of the things that hasn’t changed from when we started (and something that has kept customers coming back and recommending us to friends) is a fabulous selection of wood, laminate, luxury vinyl, carpet and rugs (including a bespoke rug service), a children’s play area to keep families happy, full fitting service, price match guarantee, 0% finance and not to mention exceptional customer service!
To us, the customer is King. A showroom can offer the best prices, have the largest range of products and the most knowledgeable specialists (as well as the best coffee!), but if you don’t offer great customer service from start to finish then put simply, none of that matters.
We still still visit our customer’s homes, free of charge, day or night with samples and to offer advice and measure up. This service is invaluable for our elderly customers, and those with mobility issues.
