So what is it that makes Oak wood flooring so special?
Oak wood flooring has great strength and is an extremely hard-wearing wood which makes it the ideal flooring for any home.
It has beautiful grain markings, and the natural content of Tannin make it highly resistant to insect and fungal attack, which is a plus for any home. Oak wood flooring has been used through the ages and was the popular choice for Viking Long Boats.
Why choose oak wood flooring? Why not go for the click system of a laminate wood effect floor? Well, I think there are many reasons for choosing a natural product like wood. First there is the feel underfoot. Wood will always have the upper-hand because it is a natural product. Laminate wood effect flooring is great and are extremely hard wearing which make them a plus for any busy household. With wood there is a certain amount of care to be taken. Many laminates claim that they are bomb-proof and scratch proof and offer all manner of benefits which is fantastic for the busy parent or even restaurant, but can you resist the beauty of wood with all its markings and colours?
I think that laminates and luxury vinyl’s have come a long way but even with our fantastic digital photography and break-through methods of reproducing a natural product like oak wood flooring, it’s just not to be beaten. Then again, I have seen some laminates which I could not tell the difference between them and the real thing.
So how do we go about choosing what will be the ideal product for ourselves? First we have to decide what will benefit the space we are wanting to floor. Is it a kitchen or bathroom or? If it is our main living space then we will using that room all the time, so we have to choose carefully. Colour is so important to any home. Do we decide on a dark colour or stain or a natural light tone? Perhaps if the area is lacking natural light then a lighter coloured wood would suite better as it will help lift the space.
Darker floors can be really beautiful and sumptuous though. It is a difficult decision, but I would advise a company that will visit your home with samples so you can you can see, especially in the space to be floored all the variations of colours etc. First Floors which is based on Fenwick Road on the Southside of the City of Glasgow offers such a first class service for all your flooring needs.
