Looking for solid oak wood flooring? First Floors is THE place to go!
Here at First Floors on Fenwick Road in Giffnock, we will always try to offer our customers the latest brands, colours and finishes.
Solid oak wood flooring is still one of our greatest sellers and the natural look is giving way to a more matured look. At First Floors we have some beautiful samples of solid oak wood flooring with a hand scraped finish, and also offer this in an engineered wood board. Solid wood is as it sounds; a solid piece of wood from the top to the bottom of the board. It’s not mounted on anything, it’s literally one piece from the same tree. We would usually recommend that a solid wood floor be nailed to an existing wooden floor and it’s essential if you have solid wood flooring to let it acclimatise in your home for around 3 days to a week to reduce any chance of expansion which can cause problems with the original fit. An engineered board however can be both nailed and floated, and can even be laid over underfloor heating. By floating we mean it can be laid onto a concrete base or existing wooden floor. An engineered board is made of 3 layers of plywood with a veneer of wood on top. Engineered wood flooring is becoming more popular day to day as they are extremely easy to lay and because of the structure, they do not expand and contract as much as a solid wood floor, making them ideal for basements and conservatories where humidity may be an issue. However, our customers still want real solid wood floors – we call it the leather handbag effect. Even if a handbag looks exactly like leather, the wearer knows it isn’t and therefore would pay a bit extra for the real deal. The hand-scraped look is becoming very popular as it distresses the look of the wood giving it an aged and beautiful finish. This is especially popular in period, character properties. Customers want a new floor, but want it to look authentic. It really is a stunning floor to have in your home. At First Floors we are constantly offering specials on our ranges and as David Samuel the owner and founder of the company will say “ We will not be beaten on price!!” and believe me we will not. Everyone wants value for money, and not only will we offer you value and the quality that you expect, but you will get a beautiful floor that will last for many, many years to come. If you are looking for something that will be easy to maintain and clean then you might like to think about a luxury vinyl. Now why would you choose something like this above a real wood or engineered board? Well, for some customers the thought of having something that they can use most cleaning products on and mop, then a luxury vinyl is the best choice for them. A vinyl would always be recommended for a bathroom as obviously this is the room where there is a lot of water spillage. We have on offer at First Floors, a fantastic vinyl called Moduleo which could just be the perfect flooring that you are looking for. Come into First Floors and check out our new range of solid wood floors – we have a fantastic new stand full of lacquered and oiled options with various plank widths including parquet herringbone flooring.
